Mark Vassella was appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of BlueScope Steel in January 2018.

He joined the Company following BlueScope's 2007 acquisition of Smorgon Steel Distribution where he was the Chief Executive.  He was appointed Chief Executive Australian Distribution and Solutions before moving to the US as President, BlueScope Steel North America in 2008.  He returned to Australia in 2011 to take up the role of Chief Executive BlueScope Australia and New Zealand. 

Mr Vassella has a Bachelor of Commerce and a Masters of Business Administration. 

Mr Vassella lives in Melbourne, and is married with two children.  He is a past Board member, President and Treasurer of the Family Life charitable organisation, and is a stalwart supporter of the St Kilda Football Club.

Mr Elias was appointed Chief Executive NS BlueScope on 1 March 2018, responsible for the Company's building products businesses across ASEAN and North America.  Building Products focuses on building and construction markets, using the breadth of the BlueScope network to leverage operating technologies and supply chain opportunities.

He joined BlueScope Steel as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in March 2008. Prior to this, he was CFO and Director for Linfox Group and CFO, Director and General Manager Strategy and Business Development for TXU Australia.

He began his career with Deloitte Consulting as a Senior Consultant. Mr Elias is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

As announced to the ASX on 27 November 2017, from 1 July 2018 Mr Elias also assumes responsibility for BlueScope China.

On 1 July 2015, Mr Finan assumed the position of Chief Executive BlueScope Buildings, a business that covers all the Company's market leading engineered steel building businesses stretching from North America across China, Asia, India, the Middle East and Australia, creating a unique engineered building solutions capability. BlueScope's metal coating, painting and Lysaght businesses in China also form part of this global building business..

In addition to these responsibilities, Mr Finan has executive responsibility for BlueScope's corporate interests in North America, including its fully-owned North Star BlueScope Steel business.

Mr Finan was previously President Global Building Solutions with responsibility for global project delivery, account management and business development for the global building solutions business. He joined BlueScope Steel in 2004 and served as President of Butler Manufacturing before being named President BlueScope Buildings North America in 2008.

As announced to the ASX on 27 November 2017, with effect from 1 July 2018, Mr Finan will focus exclusively on BlueScope's businesses in North America.

Mr Nowlan was appointed Chief Executive Australian Steel Products in January 2018.  He leads all major operations in Australia including the Company's key operations at Port Kembla (NSW) and Western Port (VIC), and is also responsible for leading manufacturing excellence across BlueScope’s global portfolio.

Previously Mr Nowlan was General Manager Manufacturing and General Manager New Zealand and Pacific Islands.  He has over 40 years’ experience in the steel industry in Australia, New Zealand and the United States, and has held executive roles covering all facets of steelmaking at BlueScope Steel.

Ms Archibald was appointed Chief Financial Officer on 1 March 2018, responsible for finance, treasury, taxation, supply, investor relations, investments, audit and insurance.  She joined the Executive Leadership Team on 1 April 2016 with responsibility for the optimisation of investment returns from BlueScope’s global coated products assets, in addition to her role as Chief Financial Officer, BlueScope ANZ, which she held from May 2015.

Previously, Ms Archibald was Vice President, Corporate Finance and Strategy, and former roles include Vice President, Strategy and Business Development, and finance leadership roles in Vietnam and Indonesia. Ms Archibald joined BlueScope (BHP) in 1996, and in recent years has played an important role in developing BlueScope’s strategic direction and in overseeing a number of mergers and acquisitions.  She is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Ms Counsell was appointed to the Executive Leadership Team with effect from 1 January 2017 and has responsibility for legal affairs.  She joined BlueScope in 2014, following an international career extending over 25 years in partner and equivalent roles at leading global law firms.

Ms Counsell specialises in commercial law, major projects, infrastructure and project finance and has worked throughout Australia, Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East advising corporate, government and  financial institution clients on various commercial matters, in particular foreign investments, development and strategic projects (including mergers and acquisitions), corporate law and governance, in a variety of industries including mining, resources, energy and defence. 

Previously Ms Counsell held the position of General Counsel – Corporate at BlueScope and was responsible for the legal requirements of all strategic and development projects of BlueScope as well as all corporate head office legal requirements.

Mr Highnam was appointed Executive General Manager People on 1 April 2016, with responsibility for safety, remuneration and benefits, and organisation capability and performance.  In addition, he will help drive BlueScope’s innovation agenda.

Mr Highnam has broad experience of BlueScope's business.  After joining BlueScope in 2005 as Vice President Remuneration, he was appointed Vice President Human Resources, BlueScope North America, then returned to Australia in 2011 to take up the role of Vice President People, BlueScope ANZ. Subsequently, as General Manager Distribution, he successfully restructured that business.

Ms Stephens joined BlueScope as Chief Executive New Zealand & Pacific Islands on 25 June 2018. She leads the mining, manufacturing and downstream businesses in New Zealand and the Lysaght manufacturing and distribution businesses in the Pacific Islands. 

Ms Stephens joined BlueScope from New Zealand’s Aluminium Smelters, a joint venture between Pacific Aluminium and Sumitomo Chemical Company, where she had been General Manager and Chief Executive since 2013.  Previously, she was General Manager of Business Improvement & Technology for Pacific Aluminium’s four aluminium smelters across Australia and New Zealand.

A qualified engineer, Gretta has 27 years’ experience in the global aluminium industry, and has worked in aluminium smelting operations in Australia and New Zealand.

Mr Garey was appointed Chief Strategy & Transformation Officer for BlueScope on 2 July 2018, responsible for working with leadership to set the company’s direction, transformation agenda and organisational capabilities for the future. This will include a global focus on: strategy; innovation; digital; marketing; and research & development.

Mr Garey joined BlueScope in 2008 as General Manager Strategic Marketing in the Australian business. Most recently he was General Manager Business Improvement in Australian Steel Products and before that, the General Manager of New Zealand Steel and Pacific Islands business.

Mr Garey came to BlueScope from Boral where he led the Sales and Marketing operations for their Timber division. His previous experience includes senior sales and strategy roles with Blackmores and consulting roles in strategy and business development with the Boston Consulting Group.
