Paul O'Malley was appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of BlueScope Steel in 2007.
He joined BlueScope Steel as its Chief Financial Officer in December 2005. He was formerly the Chief Executive Officer of TXU Energy, a subsidiary of TXU Corp based in Dallas, Texas, and held other senior management roles within TXU. Before joining TXU, he worked in investment banking and consulting.
Paul has a Bachelor of Commerce and a Master of Applied Finance, and is a Chartered Accountant.
Paul was born in Dubbo, New South Wales. He and his wife Catherine have a daughter and three sons. Paul enjoys spending time with his family, cycling and watching rugby union.
On 1 July, 2012, Mr Dayal assumed the position of Chief Executive NS BlueScope, a business that covers the Company's building products businesses across ASEAN and North America. Building Products focuses on building and construction markets, using the breadth of the BlueScope network to leverage operating technologies and supply chain opportunities.
Before this role, Mr Dayal was Chief Executive for Asia and prior to joining BlueScope Steel in 2009, he was General Manager, Manufacturing and Supply Chain for Orica Mining Services where he managed its Asia division.
On 1 July 2015, Mr Finan assumed the position of Chief Executive BlueScope Buildings, a business that covers all the Company's market leading engineered steel building businesses stretching from North America across China, Asia, India, the Middle East and Australia, creating a unique engineered building solutions capability. BlueScope's metal coating, painting and Lysaght businesses in China also form part of this global building business..
In addition to these responsibilities, Mr Finan has executive responsibility for BlueScope's corporate interests in North America, including its fully-owned North Star BlueScope Steel business.
Mr Finan was previously President Global Building Solutions with responsibility for global project delivery, account management and business development for the global building solutions business. He joined BlueScope Steel in 2004 and served as President of Butler Manufacturing before being named President BlueScope Buildings North America in 2008.
Mr Vassella was appointed Chief Executive BlueScope Australia and New Zealand on 1 July 2011. He leads all major operations in Australia and New Zealand including the Company's key operations at Port Kembla (NSW) and Western Port (VIC), and New Zealand Steel located at Glenbrook, south of Auckland.
Previously, Mr Vassella was President, BlueScope Steel North America and before that was Chief Executive Australian Distribution and Solutions. He joined the Company following BlueScope's acquisition of Smorgon Steel Distribution in 2007.
Mr Elias joined BlueScope Steel as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in March 2008. He is responsible for finance, treasury, taxation, supply, investor relations, investments, audit and insurance. Prior to this, he was CFO and Director for Linfox Group and CFO, Director and General Manager Strategy and Business Development for TXU Australia.
He began his career with Deloitte Consulting as a Senior Consultant. Mr Elias is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Ms Counsell was appointed to the Executive Leadership Team with effect from 1 January 2017 and has responsibility for legal affairs. She joined BlueScope in 2014, following an international career extending over 25 years in partner and equivalent roles at leading global law firms.
Ms Counsell specialises in commercial law, major projects, infrastructure and project finance and has worked throughout Australia, Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East advising corporate, government and financial institution clients on various commercial matters, in particular foreign investments, development and strategic projects (including mergers and acquisitions), corporate law and governance, in a variety of industries including mining, resources, energy and defence. Previously Ms Counsell held the position of General Counsel – Corporate at BlueScope and was responsible for the legal requirements of all strategic and development projects of BlueScope as well as all corporate head office legal requirements.
Mr Highnam was appointed Executive General Manager People & Performance on 1 April 2016, with responsibility for safety, remuneration and benefits, and organisation capability and performance. In addition, he will help drive BlueScope’s innovation agenda.
Mr Highnam has broad experience of BlueScope's business. After joining BlueScope in 2005 as Vice President Remuneration, he was appointed Vice President Human Resources, BlueScope North America, then returned to Australia in 2011 to take up the role of Vice President People, BlueScope ANZ. Subsequently, as General Manager Distribution, he successfully restructured that business.
Ms Archibald joined the Executive Leadership Team on 1 April 2016 with responsibility for the optimisation of investment returns from BlueScope’s global coated products assets, in addition to her role as Chief Financial Officer, BlueScope ANZ, which she has held since May 2015.
Previously, Ms Archibald was Vice President, Corporate Finance and Strategy, and former roles include Vice President, Strategy and Business Development, and finance leadership roles in Vietnam and Indonesia. Ms Archibald joined BlueScope (BHP) in 1996, and in recent years has played an important role in developing BlueScope’s strategic direction and in overseeing a number of mergers and acquisitions.
