BlueScope Sustainability Report Suite Published

The FY2025 Sustainability Report details the progress BlueScope has made against our four sustainability focus areas. This updated approach to sustainability, called our 'Sustainability at BlueScope' framework, guides our actions and ensures transparency and accountability as we progress toward our long-term goals and aspirations. In a year marked by evolving industry dynamics and macroeconomic uncertainty, we focused on business resilience and delivering on our sustainability commitments.

Four focus areas


Safe, thriving people and engaged communities:

  • 1,367 Health, Safety and Environment risk control projects completed since 2021
  • Committed to a workplace where everyone can feel respected and included
  • Continued to deliver on our social impact priorities.

Action on climate and environment:

  • Steelmaking greenhouse gas emissions intensity reduced by 14 per cent since FY2018
  • Progressed the NeoSmelt joint venture to develop Australia’s first ironmaking Electric Smelter Furnace pilot plant
  • Employees submitted 45 environmental improvement projects through our recognition program.

Responsible products and supply chains: 

  • New Environmental Product Declarations published for the upcoming Electric Arc Furnace-produced materials (standard blend and high scrap blend) in New Zealand
  • Completed 336 supplier assessments
  • Doubled the number of suppliers set-up in the EcoVadis IQ Plus tool, now totalling 6,100

Enduring business strength and growth:

  • Delivered $130M net savings (based on FY2024 cost base)
  • Refreshed our Code of Conduct to reinforce our commitment to ethical behaviour
  • Targeting $500M of additional earnings contribution by 2030

FY2025 Modern Slavery Statement

BlueScope’s FY2025 Modern Slavery Statement details our commitment and progress on identifying, taking action, and mitigating the risks of modern slavery, human trafficking, and other forms of forced labour in our operations and supply chains. Importantly, the Statement highlights the effectiveness of the past 12 months of activities, based on a thorough review.

During the reporting period, we:

  • Strengthened controls around the management of contractors on our sites—an important step in ensuring that all individuals working with, or on behalf of BlueScope, are treated with dignity and respect.
  • Undertook proactive modern slavery risk assessments in Vietnam and Indonesia, demonstrating our commitment to identifying issues before they arise and improving conditions across our operations and supply chain.
  • Developed a responsible sourcing good practice guide and began the process of using EcoVadis Sustainable Procurement Maturity assessments across our business units for an independent review of our
