COLORBOND® steel celebrates 60 years - BlueScope launches national brand campaign for Australian icon
BlueScope today marks the 60th anniversary of COLORBOND® steel with the launch of a national brand campaign, created along with Clemenger BBDO, celebrating one of Australia’s most recognised and trusted brands.
COLORBOND® steel was invented at Port Kembla in 1966. Sixty years later, it is on the roofs of millions of Australian homes, on schools, sheds, stadiums and community centres across the country.
That’s what six decades of consistent investment, innovation and patient brand-building delivers. Today, COLORBOND® steel is covered by 599 patents across 25 countries.
COLORBOND® steel is manufactured by BlueScope at the Port Kembla Steelworks on the NSW South Coast - home to Australian steelmaking for nearly 100 years – and at plants in Western Sydney, Brisbane, and Hastings in Victoria.
BlueScope is Australia’s largest steel company, with 16,500 employees across 14 countries. In Australia, the company operates more than 100 sites and has invested over $2 billion in its operations over the past three years, including a new $415 million metal coating line in Western Sydney that will increase COLORBOND® steel production capacity to meet growing demand.
The “Made by Australia” campaign launches nationally on 30 January across television, digital, social media and outdoor. It features a cover of Men at Work’s Down Under by Tones and I and showcases Australian homes and landscapes from coast to outback.
The campaign reflects the emotional connection Australians have with the brand - and BlueScope’s ongoing commitment to investing in brands that Australians trust.
