The Port Kembla Steelworks has excess Coke-making capacity, and produces a high quality product sought by many customers around the steelmaking world. A new $12million export facility is now operating, and can load Coke at a much higher rate than the previous equipment. This should allow the steelworks to export approximately 600,000 tonnes annually, leading to significant cost savings.

The project was designed and constructed by BlueScope and contractors within the Illawarra.

Coke is the reducing agent and fuel needed in the Blast Furnace to produce iron, which is then refined into steel.
