In China, BlueScope operates three businesses: BlueScope Steel Suzhou, BlueScope Butler and BlueScope Lysaght.

Our operations in China comprise a metallic coating and painting facility at Suzhou, three world class building systems manufacturing facilities, 32 sales and marketing offices and approximately 1,200 employees. Our second combined Butler engineered building solutions and Lysaght rollforming facility in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, demonstrates how premium steel buildings support sustainable green building technology. BlueScope in Malaysia has two main operating arms.

New Caledonia is the headquarters of the BlueScope Lysaght Pacific Region operations, comprising roll forming centres in Noumea, Port Vila and Suva, Lautaka and Lambasa (Fiji).

Located at Ducos in the Numbo Bay, our Noumea factory manufactures LYSAGHT CUSTOM ORB™, LYSAGHT KLIP-LOK™ 406 and LYSAGHT TRIMDEK™ roofing and cladding profiles. We supply curved sheeting in both corugated and LYSAGHT TRIMDEK™ profiles.

New Zealand Steel and Pacific Islands business comprises the Waikato North Head mine, the Glenbrook steelworks, the Pacific Steel rolling mill and the Pacific Islands businesses.

New Zealand Steel, the only fully integrated steel producer in New Zealand, uses locally-sourced iron sand and coal to manufacture about 650,000 tonnes of steel slab and billet a year at the Glenbrook steelworks south of Auckland.  It produces a range of flat and long steel products for domestic and export use, and supplies all major markets including construction, manufacturing, infrastructure, packaging and agriculture.

The integrated steelmaking process starts with the Waikato North Head iron sands mine, which supplies approximately 1.2 mtpa of iron sands concentrate to the Glenbrook Steelworks, sufficient to meet its annual production requirements.  The mine is operated under a long-term exclusive license with the New Zealand government.

The Glenbrook steelworks comprises ironmaking, steelmaking, a slab and billet caster, a hot and cold rolling mill, galvanising line, a paint line and a hollow sections mill.  Slabs are rolled into hot and cold rolled products, which are then sold or further processed into products like hollow sections, galvanised steel, ZINCALUME® and COLORSTEEL® roofing products. Steel billets are produced at Glenbrook and sent via rail to Pacific Steel rolling mill for domestic reinforcing and wire products.

Our New Zealand and Pacific Islands business employs around 1400 people ad includes:

• Pacific Steel New Zealand, acquired by BlueScope in 2014 as a long product business (rolling mill and wire drawing facilities)
• The Pacific Islands business, with facilities in Fiji, New Caledonia and Vanuatu which manufacture and distribute the LYSAGHT® range of products

BlueScope Steel (Thailand) Limited produces metallic coated and prepainted steel products for local and export markets. Our domestic customers range across the construction, appliance, and general manufacturing industries.

Our principal products include Clean COLORBOND® steel and ZINCALUME® steel. Alternative 55% aluminium/zinc coated steel products include ZACS® steel, P-ZACS® steel and SHUTTEREX® steel.

In 2006, the first dedicated pre-engineered building fabrication facility in Thailand was commissioned in Rayong Province.

Products range from building components such as steel roofing, wall cladding, structural floor decking, and high strength purlins, to complete pre-engineered buildings, custom designed to meet clients' needs. These products are suitable for wide range of commercial, industrial, and residential buildings.

Buildings North America

Buildings North America, including Butler Buildings and Varco Pruden Buildings, is a fully integrated business that designs, manufactures and markets custom engineered metal building systems and components for industrial, commercial and community segments of low-rise non-residential building and construction markets and government applications. BlueScope Buildings draws upon a number of distribution channels to bring its product to the customer, including: 

• the Butler Builder network of over 1,100 authorised construction professionals from North America;
• Varco Pruden Builders, a network of more than 1,000 independent authorised construction professionals from across North America; and
• BlueScope Construction, an in-house general contractor specialising in large construction projects and government work.

The BlueScope Buildings PEB manufacturing footprint consists of nine facilities - eight are located in the U.S. in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, California, Texas, Alabama, Missouri, Wisconsin and Tennessee, and one is located in Monterrey, Mexico.

ASC Profiles

ASC Profiles manufactures steel building components including architectural roof and wall systems and structural roof and floor decking at nine manufacturing facilities located in the states of California, Washington State, Oregon, Utah and Alaska.

It operates three building product lines, which are sold primarily through a national network of offices and sales representatives:

• ASC Building Products - manufactures light commercial and industrial roofing and walling and residential roofing products;
• AEP Span - manufactures architectural, commercial and industrial products and retrofit roof systems; and
• ASC Steel Deck - manufactures floor and roof deck products.

Steelscape

Steelscape produces metal coated and painted steel coils for non-residential building and construction markets in North America.  Steelscape sells its products to a broad range of customers in the construction end markets in the U.S. and Canada for use in metal buildings, roof and wall panels, steel framing and decking. The products are primarily distributed to the U.S. east and west coasts with approximately 60% of sales to roll-formers and metal builder customers.

Steelscape has two manufacturing facilities in the U.S., located in Washington and California. The California facilities include metal coating, painting and slitting equipment, with Washington also operating a pickling and cold mill line. Total annual capacity is approximately 475,000 tonnes of metal-coated steel products and 215,000 tonnes of painting capacity.

North Star BlueScope Steel LLC

North Star BlueScope Steel in Delta, Ohio was established in 1996, and its facilities are amongst the newest in North America, and use leading edge steelmaking technologies and processes.  In October 2015, BlueScope acquired the remaining 50 per cent of North Star BlueScope Steel from Cargill Inc. to move to full ownership of this business.

Around 2 million tonnes of hot rolled coil are produced annually from North Star's dual electric arc furnaces, using scrap metal, pig iron and alloys. North Star BlueScope Steel ranks fifth by volume in the production of hot rolled coil in North America, and is consistently voted number one for eight consecutive years in the annual Jacobson Survey of steel customers measuring customer satisfaction.

BlueScope Recycling & Materials

BlueScope Recycling & Materials , acquired by BlueScope in December 2021, is a full-service, ferrous scrap metal recycler with processing facilities in Waterloo, Indiana and in Delta, Ohio adjacent to our North Star BlueScope Steel facility. 

With a priority on delivering the highest level of service, BlueScope Recycling buys scrap from industrial generators, wholesale suppliers, and the general public. This business transforms raw ferrous scrap into specification melt products for primary and secondary producers of iron, steel, and stainless steel.

This business is focused on achieving long-term sustainable growth by applying our extensive knowledge and experience to support the unique needs of generators and consumers of scrap metal.

BlueScope Coated Products

BlueScope Coated Products was established in June 2022, being a result of BlueScope acquiring the coil coatings business from Cornerstone Building Brands, including products sold under the Metal Coaters and Metal Prep brands. BlueScope Coated Products is the second largest metal painter in the US, with a total capacity of around 900,000 tonnes per annum across seven facilities. 

It paints a range of finishes on steel and aluminium substrates for many applications, including building products and manufactured goods, with a demonstrated history of robust financial performance, and a sales mix focused on attractive end-use segments. BlueScope Coated Products offers significant opportunities for medium- to longer-term growth through product development and branded products, consistent with our customer service and value proposition around the globe.

BlueScope Steel's US$105 million world-class flat steel metallic coating and painting facility in Phu My 1 Industrial Zone, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province was commissioned in November 2005.  It includes a 125,000 tonne per annum metallic coating line, 50,000 tonne per annum paint line and a 15,000 tonne per annum combination slitting line.
