Meet Trish, Executive Assistant to the CEO

Based at the head office in Melbourne, Trish kindly shared her long-term experience with BlueScope and her thoughts on the importance of well-being at work.

What’s involved in your work each day?

Every day is different! It predominantly involves making sure that Mark, our CEO, gets where he needs to go. As his executive assistant, that means keeping track of his extensive travel, organising executive meetings across the business, working with his management team to make sure they’re where they need to be and working with our executives here in Melbourne. It varies day to day.

With all of that responsibility, do you feel like you have a good understanding of where people sit across the company?

Absolutely, yes… I’ve actually been here for about 13 years, so I have a good relationship with a good number of people. I get to work closely with the executive teams and their people, which is another great thing about working with Mark in this role.

Over the last 13 years, what has been one of the greatest challenges that you’ve faced?

When I started, I was in the investor relations team and not long after that, we hit the downturn. It was a very difficult time for BlueScope and its shareholders. A lot of concerned shareholder questions came through to me about our share price but since that time it has been great to see BlueScope come out of that and grow again. It has been rewarding to be at the company during that transformation.

Beyond the normal scope of your role, in what else have you had the chance to be involved?

What I’m super-excited about at the moment is our newly launched well-being program, called BlueScope Lifestyle. It’s in the pilot stage at the moment and we’ve kicked off our first four weeks. There’s something every week; we’re doing exercise classes, staff workshops and meditation and mindfulness sessions. It’s all about understanding how we can bring the best versions of ourselves to work and take the best versions of ourselves home at the end of the day. It’s a busy company—just like any other—and we want to support the wellness of our people into the future.
