Meet Steph, Business Partner - People

One of the many faces of BlueScope, Steph is young staff member in Port Kembla, working as Business Partner - People. Steph has a multifaceted role and is constantly in touch with numerous people across the business. She took a moment out of her busy schedule to give us an insight into her work.

When did you start working for BlueScope?

I started at BlueScope in 2014 in the IT department and what really drew me to the company was the industry in which it operates–it was very different from anywhere else where I had worked before. The general culture and way that the organisation cares for individuals were two other factors that drew me to BlueScope.

What is your role now specifically?

I am now a Business Partner and I look after our HR and health and safety individuals. Essentially, I am their IT conduit, so I work with IT internally to deliver for the People team’s IT and other technical needs. Most of my customer base is here in Port Kembla, however I do work with contacts in Adelaide and Mount Waverly too.

Have you pursued further opportunities for training and career development at BlueScope?

I certainly have within the last six months in particular, as I’ve undertaken external training in business relationship management. That has really helped me with my current role. In my earlier IT work, I had other opportunities to develop my skills and also work with other people and teams across the business.

What would you say to people who are considering a role with BlueScope?

Give it a go and make sure that you put in 110% at work. The people are here to support you, so don’t be afraid to ask questions and seek new opportunities. Take the chance to grow and do as best as you can.
