Meet Adam, Process Operator

Adam is based at the Western Port site in Hastings, Victoria, and when he first joined, he was looking for a new role to support his growing family. Read on to learn more about his experience with BlueScope.

How long have you been working with BlueScope?

I’ve been here for 12 and a half years and I’ve worked in three different departments. I decided to join primarily because the balance of time and money was perfect whilst I was starting a young family. It worked well because I live on the other side of the Mornington Peninsula, which is only 20 minutes away from work.

What was your working background before BlueScope?

I worked in sales for a timber company and I was looking for time flexibility. I needed a stable job to support my young family and I found that here.

What was your experience like when you first joined?

Living on the peninsula already and seeing the plant nearby, I was already familiar with the industry and knew what to expect. Just coming in and seeing the size of the buildings and the plant itself was a bit of a surprise, but having an idea of the people who worked here already was helpful.

Any advice for job seekers who are considering a role with us?

Longevity is a good one. Also, being a big, multinational company, BlueScope does offer stability. It’s a good company to work for, with decent flexibility in roles on the floor. There’s great camaraderie among the people. It’s different from when I started and I’m sure that things will continue to change.
