We have all seen the massive destruction and upheaval caused by the devastating floods in Queensland and New South Wales over the last couple of weeks.  Our thoughts are with all those – including BlueScope employees – who have been hit by this disaster.  It's evident that the effect of these floods will be widespread, and it will take many months for some areas to recover.

In keeping with Our Purpose to strengthen our communities, BlueScope has donated $500,000 to the BizRebuild program, a Business Council of Australia led initiative that gives practical, on-the-ground assistance to local businesses hit by natural disasters. The aim is to help businesses that employ locals get back to work and wages, as soon as possible after the clean up.  

BlueScope will join other major companies whose cash donations are distributed promptly through BizRebuild’s voucher program, which assists businesses to replace tools, office equipment, laptops and other practical items they need to get back to work. Vouchers are also available to connect business owners with other local services and to cover restart costs.

As regions start rebuilding after floodwaters have receded there may be other opportunities for our local businesses and team members in the regions to support their local community – in line with Our Bond, at BlueScope, our communities are our homes.
