100 marae in the making

For the past decade, Marae* DIY, a television program that brings whanau** together in renovating marae across New Zealand, has been supported by New Zealand Steel through supplies of COLORSTEEL®, and most recently COLORSTEEL® DRIDEX® for the marae roof. Marae DIY has now completed its 100th marae, but the team has not lost sight of the intent of the show – bringing people together – and it gives a great insight into marae and the culture and values behind them.

*marae – a communal or sacred place that serves religious and social purposes in Maori society, and is still an important part of everyday life

**whanau – Te Reo Maori (Maori language) word for extended family group
